Isothiazolin
1.5% ISOTHIAZOLIN - Excellent for aerobic bacteria and fungi, poor for anaerobic SRB, fair for fungi and algae. For use in cooling towers and air washers at pH 6.0 to 9.5
- Good in closed systems.
- Best non-oxidizer biocide at high pH.
- Feedrates: 60 to 100 ppm dosed to the recirculating water.
- Control: Microorganism concentration monitoring with dipslides.

Frequently Ask Questions:
What is Isothiazolin? Isothiazolin is an excellent slimicide and biocide for use in recirculating cooling water, cooling tower and cooling systems. The product is effective over a wide pH range against a wide range of slime forming bacteria typically found in these systems.
Isothiazolin is normally shot fed to the system to be treated one to thre times per week or as required to maintain control. Often, alternating the material with another type of biocide, either oxidizing or non oxidizing, will enhance the performance of both materials. The product should be added to the system at a point where rapid mixing will occur.
How much Isothiazolin do I need to feed to my system? Isothiazolin is typically required at the rate of 8 to16 fl.oz./1000 gallons water (0.9 1.8 ppm actives) in the system to be treated. Since there is no reliable field test to check the concentration of the product in the system, system volume should be determined prior to application to assure proper additions are made. For systems which have become noticeably fouled, the dosage may be increased to 2.8 fl.oz. (5 ppm actives) until the condition is brought under control. Badly fouled systems should be cleaned prior to treatment. In cooling water systems Glutaraldehyde is commonly used as alternate biocide to assure the bacteria does not develop resistance to the biocide. Use dipslides to monitor the bacteria growth and add more as needed.
Where can I buy Isothiazolin? Isothiazolin is sold only by chemical distributors. ChemWorld stocks Isothiazolin in 5 and 55 gallon containers.
