FDA Approved Glycol InhibitorWhat is a glycol inhibitor? There are two types of glycol inhibitors. The first is our Glycol Inhibitor SR which contains a synergistic blend of phosphate, molybdate and triazole corrosion inhibitors. The product has been formulated for use in replenishing the inhibitor in certain types of glycol based heat transfer solutions. This product is pink in appearance.
The second is a FDA glycol product called ADPAC. This product is formulated for use in water systems that require FDA certification or it may be mixed directly with Propylene Glycol USP to create a Inhibited USP grade Propylene Glycol product. This product is a blend of phosphate and other corrosion inhibitors.
What metals will a glycol inhibitor protect? Both Glycol Inhibitors are used in glycol water treatment applications requiring a stabilized phosphate type inhibitor. It provides an effective combination of inhibitors for steel, cast iron, galvanized and aluminum. It can be used as a dip tank or spray inhibitor in applications where a variety of metallurgies require temporary inhibition for indoor, protected storage.
How much Glycol Inhibitor SR do I add to my glycol system? Feed Glycol Inhibitor SR at 3.6% based on the total glycol content in system.
- Example: If you have a 500 gallon system with 50% glycol. Take 0.036*500*0.5 = 9 gallons of Glycol Inhibitor needed.
- If you have a 500 gallon system with 25% glycol. Take 0.036*500*0.25 = 4.5 gallons of Glycol Inhibitor needed.
How much Glycol Inhibitor SR do I add to pure propylene glycol? For new glycol systems, one pail treats two to three 55 gallon drums of PG.
How much corrosion inhibitor ADPAC do I need for my glycol system? For new systems, one 5 gallon pail of ADPAC should be added per 55 gallon container of PG USP.
